There's a play-along series out there with bass on one side and piano on the other which is supposed to along you to eliminate one or the other so you can play along. A stereo recording, closely panned is going to sound like it's coming from one place in the stereo panorama, but it contains information from both mics and sounds better, IMO, than simple mono. Those recordings you think are mono might not be. You can always split the keyboard with the left half/left channel, right half/right channel to help balance things out, but most of the time just using one side gets you pretty close. You think it will sound differently if they had only used one mic? No, only the balance would change a bit. ![]() ![]() You want mono, listen to either the left or right side. Stereo is simply two mono mics recorded at the same time.
